Wixy Soap Updates: No More Regular In-Person Shopping + What’s Next for Makers
As Wixy Soap continues to evolve, we have an important update regarding in-person shopping. We will no longer be offering regular in-person shopping moving forward. This decision truly makes me sad. I love seeing people come in, smell every fragrance twice, ask soap questions, talk ingredients, compare colours, and leave with a little bag of creative possibility. Our store has always been more than shelves and jars. It has been a meeting place for makers.
But Wixy Soap is growing. And growth, I’m learning, sometimes means making hard decisions so we can serve people better. The good news is our website is available 24/7, so you can continue to shop anytime with convenient pickup or delivery options.
Many of you, especially the other night owls, already know this because you’ve seen the 1am Wixy Lives on Facebook. We have emailed each other late into the night, and sometimes, let’s be honest, right into the morning. If you have ever received a Wixy reply at 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., or that suspicious little gremlin hour of 3:00 a.m., you already know the lights are still on over here. Some people keep banker’s hours - Creators keep real hours! Right?
By stepping away from regular in-person shopping, I’ll be able to focus more on what our customers across Canada need most: more products, better systems, faster support, stronger education, and more tools for makers who are trying to build properly.
Classes are absolutely still running. Wixy Soap will continue teaching soap, lotion, skincare, and maker education in person. We are also carrying more products and expanding our resources, to make things better for customers. Instead of being tied to tending the store, I can put more time into orders, classes, product sourcing, compliance help, resources and tools, and the behind-the-scenes work that helps your businesses grow too. And that brings me to something very important.
As many makers are discovering, compliance with Health Canada is becoming a much bigger issue, especially with fragrance allergen reporting. For small businesses, this can feel overwhelming. You are trying to make beautiful products, keep customers happy, design labels, manage stock, and suddenly you are staring at allergen disclosure thresholds wondering whether Linalool, Limonene, Citral, Geraniol, Coumarin, or Benzyl Benzoate needs to appear on your label.
It’s the kind of thing that makes a maker look at their ingredient list, sigh deeply, and wonder if this was ever supposed to involve this much paperwork. The makers with their special essential oil blends are now throwing in the towel. All the creators that are the makers on the side just can’t keep up. So we are working on making this easier.
Wixy Soap has created one of the first Canadian fragrance allergen checkers built specifically for makers selling cosmetics in Canada. You enter your fragrance percentage, choose whether your product is rinse-off or leave-on, paste in the allergen information from your supplier, and the checker helps show which allergens need to be declared for Canadian cosmetic labelling. This matters because Canadian makers deserve tools built for Canada. To access our Fragrance Allergen Percentage Calculator, please like our Facebook page and join our Facebook group to receive the password.
We are working on a practical resource that helps you be compliant without the stress, the cost and the time. We will help you move forward so you can get on with business.
Wixy Soap has always been about more than selling supplies. We teach. We formulate. We troubleshoot. We help makers understand the rules, not just fear them. And as Health Canada requirements become more important for handmade businesses, we want to be part of the solution.
So while in-person shopping is changing, Wixy Soap is growing into something bigger: more education, more products, more compliance support, more resources, and better tools for makers across Canada.
Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, your late-night emails, your class registrations, your orders, and your trust. I’m sad to close this chapter of regular in-person shopping, but I’m excited for what Wixy Soap is becoming.
And yes, I’ll probably still answer your email at 3:00 a.m. 😉
